1.4 - Breakout Discussion: Apply the NASEM Definition to Your Biomedical Digital Twin Idea - Addressing Fit for Purpose

Back to 2024 Agenda

Breakout Group Logistics:

The full group will divide into random break-out groups in the main meeting room forming groups of about 8 people. Moderators will be floating around the room to facilitate discussion.

Purpose: To deepen your understanding of BDTs and begin applying the theory to build out your idea.

Breakout Group Activity:

Work on Individual BDTs for about 10 minutes

  • Each person should refer to the Handout: BDT Components and list of questions. Here
    • What is the problem you are trying to solve?
    • How will a BDT solve this problem?
      • What makes your BDT realistic?
      • What enables your BDT to change and mature over time?
    • What is the physical asset?
    • What is the virtual asset?
    • What information will be passed between the physical and virtual assets in real time?
    • What are the ethical issues that must be considered in developing and using this BDT?

  • If you don't have an idea, pair up with someone who does and work together.

After 10 minutes, each person in the breakout group should share their BDT idea. Following this sharing, the group will select one idea to work on together, using the questions outlined above.

You can also use the Handout: BDT Components located on the Meeting Materials page.
