This is a one compartment lung mechanic model with alveolar O2-CO2 exchange with.
Figure:
This model simulates an open loop resistor-capacitor network of 3 volumes in series driven by an oscillatory pressure generator (Psource). The convective transport of material in the flow is handled for negative and positive flow (+ve is from Air to V1) by changing the equations by windowing the elements in accord with the direction of flow, the x's. Diffusive (or non-plug flow dispersion) is approximated by an axial dispersion DAx between mixing chambers, where DAx = a diffusion coeff (cm^2/s) times an Area (cm^2) / axial distance (cm). Features: Positive pressure ventilation; Airway with axial dispersion;Alveolar exchange.
Equations
The equations for this model may be viewed by running the JSim model applet and clicking on the Source tab at the bottom left of JSim's Run Time graphical user interface. The equations are written in JSim's Mathematical Modeling Language (MML). See the Introduction to MML and the MML Reference Manual. Additional documentation for MML can be found by using the search option at the Physiome home page.
